Signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles, and loose or saggy skin are common as you begin to age. Botox is considered a sought-after treatment that can help you deal with these concerns and make you look younger and radiant. Botox has been used for more than 20 years now and entertains a well-established safety record throughout the world. Today, many dentists, too, provide this service to their patients and make them look younger.
What is Botox?
Botox is a drug prepared from botulinum and is injected into your skin to address various concerns. It can be both a cosmetic treatment or a treatment for several health issues. As the former, the injections of Botox can remove the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles from your skin. The Food and Drug Administration has also approved it as a treatment for health issues such as excessive sweating, eyelid spasms, migraine, and bladder disorders.
How Does Botox Work?
Botox works by blocking the nerve signals from reaching the muscles. The injected muscle is unable to contract, hence making your wrinkles softened and relaxed. In terms of cosmetic uses, it is used around the eye to treat crow’s feet, forehead lines, frown lines, and others.
Botox is also used to treat wrinkles between your eyebrows. Our dentist may inject this drug into your skin to treat the lines at the corners of your mouth and cobblestone skin on your chin.
How is Botox Procedure Performed?
The procedure gets completed in a few minutes only. You wouldn’t need anesthesia before the treatment as it includes a small needle to inject the drug into the specific muscles of your face/jaw.
What to Expect After the Procedure?
The full effects of this procedure may take 7-14 days to appear. After two weeks, you will notice the reduction of fine lines from your skin. Your skin will also become tighter than before.
You must avoid rubbing the site of injection for 24 hours as it may spread Botox to another area and disrupt the treatment. Our dentist will recommend you stay upright for four hours after the injection. Do not perform any exercise, and try to relax your facial muscles as much as you can. The effect of such an injection will last 3-6 months. When the lines and wrinkles relapse, they appear to be less severe than before because of shrunken muscles. You can repeat the procedure after six months after visiting our clinic.
