My mouth has always made me self-conscious, even as a child. There are no photos of me smiling because of this. My teeth are jagged and crooked, and my front teeth stick out. I was never able to afford braces as a child and worry there is not much I can do to fix my teeth. However, I would need to sign up for a discounted dentistry program to even begin to afford the dentistry I need to fix my upper and lower teeth. Is there a program I can sign up for? Will a cosmetic dentist do work in exchange for promotional photos? I’m getting desperate here.

It is not uncommon for cosmetic dentists to receive this request. If a patient needs a lot of work done, sometimes they will ask if they can be a sample case, a display patient, or a before and after photo in promotional material.
However, most dentists will not take you up on your offer, because most patients are so pleased with their cosmetic dental work, that they offer to be in photos for free. Since cosmetic dentists are already getting promotional materials for free from paying patients, this is not an area where you are able to barter.
If you are honest and up front with your dentist, you may be able to work out a discounted fee or payment plan with them. This will allow you to receive treatment when you are able to pay for it, and properly compensate the dentist for their time, talent, and skill. Your payments should be paid before any work is done, and be honest with your financial situation. The last thing either you or your dentist want is for you to fall behind and be unable to get the work you need. A credit check may also be done, but if you have bad credit, let them know ahead of time.
Another angle you can try is to find out when dentists in your area offer low cost or charitable services. Many dentists work with charitable organizations that go out and serve the community, offering low-cost or no-cost dental services to those in need. Dentists are known to work with every group of people, from domestic violence victims, to children in other countries. See if there is a community dentistry day or a charitable cause that meets your needs.
