How can I find the best dentist for the problems I’m having with my gums. My gums are inflamed. I can’t floss much because it hurts my gums. My teeth are loose too. I’ve been seeing my dentist about the problem for over 2 years. They have been doing the deep cleaning every 6 months but I have seen little to no improvement at all. This is very frustrating. I got a second opinion from another dentist and they did deep cleaning too. My teeth are separating from each other and leaving spaces that look like a letter V. I’m not sure what to do about this. My dentist has repeatedly told me that he is doing the best he can, and I might lose all of my teeth and need dentures. I’m very frustrated about the time and expense this is costing. My dental plan is starting to push back because I’ve had so many dental appointments. What should I do to find the best dentist to help me with my gums and teeth? Levi
Levi – It concerns us that you have seen two dentists, both of whom didn’t recognize or understand how to treat your condition. If a dentist is unable to assist a patient, he or she should refer the patient to a specialist.
The best dentist for ongoing problems with your gums is a periodontist. A periodontist is a specialist in diseases and conditions affecting your gums. He or she will work along with your dentist to get your oral health in its best possible state.
Schedule Consultations to Find the Best Dentist for Your Oral Health
- We suggest that in addition to visiting a periodontist, you find a new general dentist. The best general dentists understand that certain oral conditions can become complex without prompt treatment. They don’t continue to try to treat your condition when their methods aren’t working. A conscientious dentist would have referred you to a specialist for further care.
- Get recommendations from friends or family members, and search online reviews, to find a new dentist. Search for a dentist who also has training in cosmetic dentistry. The condition of your oral health might require your dentist to restore or replace some of your teeth. A skilled cosmetic dentist will produce natural looking results.
- You can schedule consultations with two or three cosmetic dentists to find the best one to care for your oral health.
Although you’ve had an emotional experience with your gums and teeth, a good cosmetic dentist will work with a periodontist to identify and treat your condition.
