It’s human nature to seek pleasure and avoid pain, right? In many cases, a visit to the dentist doesn’t quite fit into the pleasure category. Routine dental visits are the biggest step in preventative care in an order to avoid any major dental work down the road. Even still, only 52.3 percent of adults report that they had visited the dentist every six months during the last few years for regular cleanings and checkups. Sadly, often, the major dental work that these patients end up needing could have been avoided had they taken the proper preventative measures.

So why do people avoid the dentist?

There are many reasons people avoid the dentist. Among some of the top reasons include cost, the belief that their oral health is already good, time, and anxiety or fear of dentistry.

Are your dental anxieties and fears causing you to put off going to the dentist?

If dental anxiety or fear has stopped you from seeing the dentist, you’re not alone. According to a survey taken by 18,000 people worldwide, 61 percent of the respondents said they suffer from dental fear. It is also very common for those who suffer from dental anxiety to have a tendency to cancel their scheduled appointments. Unfortunately, this only seems to make matters worse as they are more likely to experience tooth decay or loss. Even worse, if this happens, their physical, mental, and social health also tends to decline.

It is our goal at Rota Advanced Dental Care to help put your dental anxieties to rest.

We provide a comfortable, relaxed, spa-like atmosphere during your appointment. We invite you to relax on the sofa next to the fireplace, enjoy a hot cup of tea, and sit in our massage chair and let us treat you to a paraffin treatment on your hands. During your treatment, we’ll offer you a warm blanket, neck pillow, and virtual vision for watching a movie or stereo headphones for listening to tranquil music. We also offer nutritional snacks and steamed towels. Additionally, we have therapy animals in our office—two dogs and a talking macaw who is helpful in soothing our patients.

Think you might need just a little more help to feel completely relaxed?

There are a few other options that Dr. Rota may recommend for you. These options may make it possible to have your dental needs taken care of in just one appointment with you remembering very little of the experience.

  • Sleep Sedation Dentistry – With this option, a prescription sleeping pill is taken.  You will be sedated but will remain conscious.  You won’t remember much about your dental work, but you will need a ride home.
  • IV Sedation Dentistry –This is a more serious treatment option, as an anesthesia specialist is brought to the office to deliver and monitor IV sedation while the doctor focuses on providing your dental care.
  • Nitrous Oxide Sedation – With this option, nitrous, and oxygen are breathed through a mask during treatment. This raises your pain threshold and helps to calm you.

If you think one of these options may be right for you, we invite you to learn more about them by visiting the Sleep Sedation page on our website.
