I haven’t been to the dentist in two years. I am bulimic and have avoided the dentist. I know that I need to get help for my teeth. Should I tell the dentist I’m bulimic? I have been getting help for recovery though. If I don’t say anything can the dentist tell anyway that I have been purging? Danielle
Danielle – Yes, you should tell the dentist that you are bulimic. If you don’t mention it, the dentist will be able to tell.
The acid from repeated vomiting erodes the enamel on your teeth. Letting the dentist know your situation will make it easier for him or her to provide you with the treatment you need and make suggestions for preventing further damage to your teeth.
We suggest that you seek the help of a skilled cosmetic dentist—an accredited cosmetic dentist—if you are able to find one in your area. The restoration of your teeth will be amazing.
It takes courage to seek help, so we commend you. Best wishes on your recovery.
