one of my back teeth had a root canal, but the root of the tooth is still messed up. my dentist said there is a possibility that i will lose the tooth and need a bridge. she told me how a bridge works and i am upset because i don’t want to have my other teeth cut down to get a bridge. i don’t understand why a tooth implant won’t work?? btw i am 15… thx lauren
Lauren – A dental implant is the best way to replace a missing tooth, if your jawbone and teeth have fully developed. At age 15, you may still have a bit of growing to do, so you will need to wait until your growth has stopped.
A dental implant doesn’t move. So if it is placed while you are still growing, it can interfere with the growth and development of nearby teeth. If your jawbone grows, the implant tooth will be shorter than your natural teeth, and your smile will be uneven.
For the next year or two until your growth is complete, an experienced cosmetic dentist will help you find a temporary, natural-looking way to replace your tooth if you lose it.
