Local Dentist Receives Awards

When someone thinks of “Best of Show,” a German Shorthair Pointer named Carlee might come to mind (she was the 2005 winner of the Westminster Kennel Club “Best in Show”).

When someone thinks of the “Peoples Choice Award,” Julia Roberts might pop up (she won the public vote a few years back for her role in the movie “Erin Brockovich”).

However, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry has its own Best of Show and Peoples Choice awards. Those awards, along with others, are presented at the annual AACD Smile Gallery Competition.

The award recipients are not those wearing the smiles, the awards go to the ones who created them.

Colorado Springs dentist Dr. Joseph Rota landed a few awards for his skills in cosmetic dentistry during the 13th Annual AACD Smile Gallery Competition.

“I am happy to carry on the AACD’s tradition of superior smile design and changing people’s lives through cosmetic dentistry,” Rota said.

Rota submitted 10 cases showing his skill in smile reconstruction-before and after treatment. The AACD awarded him eight medals-one gold, one silver and six bronzes-for his work, said Lisa Juhl, the marketing director for Joseph Rota Restorative & Cosmetic Dentistry.

In addition to Best of Show and the Peoples Choice Awards, other awards included Portrait, Special Effects and Posterior Esthetics.

The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, focused on the art and science of cosmetic dentistry, has nearly 7,000 members in the United States and abroad.
